Sometimes choosing a ceiling medallion which is one of popular picks for ceiling trim designs isn't really an easy breezy job.
When you finally find yourself in countless styles and custom painting finishes then numbers come to play. Use the sample calculation below to set the base for the right size of your ceiling medallion. You can go little bit more or less depends on style of chandelier, height of the room and other custom variants but that simple mathematical rule seems to be working really well so far.
So to help you decide what size of ceiling medallion is right for your room:
- Measure the width (diameter) and length of the room
- Multiply the numbers to get the square footage of the room
- Divide given number by 7
The final number is the size in inches of your ceiling medallion diameter.
For example if your room measures 12' by 14' that would be 168 square feet so the perfect size of your ceiling medallion for this room would be about 24".
Ceiling medallions are sold in sizes that range from 8" in diameter to over 48" for an extra large room, hall or ballroom.
In bigger room with multiple light fixtures you might consider to install several medallions on one ceiling.
